Bruno

November 18, 2016 by

Bruno first came into our lives in 1996.  We found him at the Weld County Humane Society.  I was outvoted.  I had wanted the little fluffy dog but my family wanted the Shepard mix.  I went back by myself to make the arrangements for adoption.  In the visiting room he chewed on my shoe laces, peed on my foot and then hid from me in the corner.  How could I say no.  I wanted to name him Dino but again I was outvoted.  So, Bruno it was.

Bruno loved his big back yard.  He loved running along the fence greeting passers-by.  He made friends with people I didn’t even know.  Occasionally while on a walk,  a stranger would say hi to him and call him by name.  I guess they met out by the fence.

He loved going for walks.  A few times he went for a walk by himself. Once he walked to my daughter’s school.  All the kids were out waiting for the morning bell and there he was with them.  My daughter my called out, “Hey, that’s my dog!”  She and a staff member had to drive him home.

Bruno was a good family dog.  When my grandson was born, he loved him as he had loved us.  Later in his life, my boyfriend came to live with us.  He welcomed him as if they had been friends forever. Bruno especially warmed up  to him because he took over treat detail. Even when he was old and it was hard for him to get up,  he would always come running for a treat.

Bruno loved us for 14 years no matter what.  When his time came, we wanted to do the best we could for him.  I think we did.  He left us lying in his favorite shady, morning spot in his big back yard.

As much as we loved him is as much as we miss him.
